If you’re feeling stuck in old stories that no longer serve you, counselling can support you in developing personal insight, integrate new-found self awareness and self-compassion, and empower you to redefine your preferred future.
Parenting and Relationships
In the mirror of relationship, we can sometimes catch a glimpse of unconscious patterns that are causing unintentional harm to ourselves or others. Counselling can support you in becoming more aware and intentional in your parenting, or relationships with others. You have the ability heal relational wounds that you may have inherited, and develop more fulfilling expressions of love and connection in your life.
Children and Adolescents
Youth today are suffering from increasing rates of anxiety and depression. Counselling can provide a non-judgemental safe space to share, learn about boundaries and self-advocacy in relationships, explore self-expression, develop strengths and unique gifts, and learn skills and tools that build social-emotional resilience, setting them up for a bright future.
Life Transitions
Life transitions are inherently destabilizing, whether it’s becoming a parent, the loss of a loved one, losing a job or relationship or experiencing a life changing accident. I am here to listen and hold compassionate space for your grief process, as long as it takes. When you are ready, I am here to support you in integrate these experiences through meaning-making, as you journey forward.
Medical Trauma and Chronic Pain
Chronic pain and medical complications can have a significant impact on your quality of life. When families are involved, this can take a toll on the family system as a whole. I am passionate about supporting families and individuals on these difficult journeys, guiding them towards post-traumatic growth, connection, compassion and resilience.
About your Counsellor
My name is Kate Walker (she/her), I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in the province of British Columbia. I am passionate about accompanying others on their journey toward discovering their unique vision of fulfillment, meaning, self-compassion, inner strength and self-worth. Doing this work is truly my privilege.
In my lifetime, I have been a youth sailing expedition leader, camp counsellor, a yogi and meditator, a surfer, a documentary television writer, partner and parent. I have lived with chronic pain and I parent a medically complicated child. I bring a range of life experiences, intuitive wisdom, patience, genuine curiosity and compassion to my professional work with clients. I believe that with the right support, we can see ourselves with honesty and self-compassion, and with a dash of grit to roll up our sleeves and do the work, we can all unlock our innate capacity to heal and flourish.
How I show up…
In session you can expect that I’ll be warm, approachable and non-judgemental. I would never ask you to do work that I wasn’t willing to do myself. This means I go to counselling, I practice yoga and meditation and I engage in professional development training to stay up-to-date on the most evidence and research-based treatment approaches available.
